Socrates started with an idea for a learning and discovery retail chain based on education, knowledge and creativity. The concept was developed to assist adults and children reach their full potential - but we couldn’t help but make it a fun exciting place to visit as well. In fact each store is a world of discovery.
Socrates was set up by two passionate Tasmanians who wanted a shop to be proud of, selling things that the whole family could have fun with. Our focus is to create an enjoyable experience for you - our customer. Socrates doesn’t use high-pressure sales techniques, but our friendly staff are fully trained in assisting you to make the right selection. Regular product demonstrations enhance the experience.
We put a lot of effort in to create the right environment and experience. Each site and store location is carefully selected. Our goal is for our customers to spend a long time in our store - and they do.
Socrates is a place where children grow into adults and adults learn to be children. Unlike toy stores, the atmosphere is one in which adults learn, play and discover as well. It is no chore for parents when children demand to go to Socrates. Our philosophy is that learning and fun shouldn’t stop when you grow up. Our product selectors give a lot of attention to children but the range of products for adults is also the most exciting and unique in the country.
Each store is focused into seven key categories: kids, creative arts, thinking games, puzzlemania, enlightenment, science and nature, leisure and lifestyle.
